Siding is one of the best ways to protect your home and preserve its charming exterior. Although several types of siding exist, consider using fiber cement siding. We’ll provide you with an easy guide for installation and application of this wondrous material. Read on to learn more about this type of siding and how you can add it to your home.

Installing Fiber Cement Siding

  • Start by adding wall studs to the outside of the wall. Use chalk to draw lines to indicate where the studs are.
  • On the corners of the wall, add some caulk. Be sure to only add caulk to the corners closer to the ground.
  • Apply aluminum flashing to the caulk, and use nails to ensure they stay in place.
  • Form a piece of fiber cement siding that is slightly shorter than the wall, by about a quarter inch.
  • Put this piece of siding above the flashing.
  • Continue applying enough caulk to make the siding stay in place.
  • Match the pieces of siding to wall shingles, joints, and the trim on any windows you might encounter along the way.
  • Make sure the siding will fit around any trim, as well.

Applying Fiber Cement Siding

Applying replacement fiber cement siding is easier and simpler than installing brand new siding. The process involved in installing this type of siding can be complex. However, fewer steps are needed to replace the siding when it needs maintenance.

  • Applying Strips Onto the Corners: You will need a nail gun for this step. Please use the nail gun responsibly. Simply attach the siding to the corners of the wall and use the nail gun to stick them in place.
  • Adding Kicker Strips: Kicker strips also need a nail gun to attach. What kicker strips do, however, is slant the fiber cement siding outwards. This slanting effect will help use gravity to facilitate water running off the fiber cement.
  • Siding Boards: Now it’s time to add the boards. With the nail gun, attach the boards to the studs on the siding. Use overlapping rows of boards to protect and preserve the nails you are using to hold the whole thing together.
  • Add Sealants: Sealants help coat the fiber cement siding around corners and near where individual boards intersect. Wall trim can be helpful in preserving sealants, particularly if you add a piece onto the corner where it is needed.
