Spring is finally here, and it’s time to think about home maintenance. After the ravages of winter weather, or unpredictable conditions as the seasons change, it can be hard to know where to start. Luckily, we have created an easy home maintenance checklist to help guide you through the process. In this week’s blog, we’ll take you through this checklist. Read on to learn more below!

Our Home Maintenance Checklist Includes

Repairing Your Roof: Roof repair is probably the most crucial part of home maintenance, especially at the beginning of the warm season. While the other aspects of home maintenance are important, particularly for the purposes of this checklist, start with your roof. You’ll want to make sure a leak didn’t form during the winter, as mild as it might have been.

If shingles cracked or fell off, or crumbled under the weight of ice and snow, you should have them replaced. Call in the professionals to help you check on the condition of your roof, as going up there by yourself can be dangerous. It gets even more dangerous if it is slippery up there due to recent rain or other precipitation.

Maintaining Your Gutters: You should also be sure to maintain your gutters. Although it can be dreadfully boring and tedious, it is critical for the sake of your house’s structural integrity. Be sure to remove all leaves, dirt, and debris. This mucky detritus can easily clog your gutters, causing more problems. If gutters become detached, the oncoming water could very well flood your basement or crawlspace.

Inspecting Your Concrete: Inspecting your concrete is another important part of your home maintenance checklist to consider. Wintry weather such as ice can wreck your concrete. Be on the lookout for widening cracks or loosening slabs and joints. You can easily repair any minor damage to your concrete, with methods such as a filler or by using silicone caulk. If you feel that the concrete is dirty, some simple power washing should be enough to clear that up. But all the same, power washing should be the first step before you do anything else, especially if you’re considering re-sealing it.

Examining Your Siding: Perhaps just as important as ensuring your roofing and siding is doing well, is to check on the condition of your siding. Wood and vinyl are the standard siding types, but even uncommon siding materials such as brick or stucco can suffer winter weather damage.
