3 Signs You May Need a New Roof

See those curled shingles in the bottom right? That’s just one sign that this family needs a new roof.

There are few things more important than to have a roof over your head. One of those more important things is that your roof is in good shape to properly protect you and your family. This summer is bound to bring plenty of heavy storms and intense heat, neither of which you want to be affecting your comfort or wellbeing. Here are a few signs that it might be time to invest in a new roof.

If Your Roof Remembers the 90’s

Father Time is one of the most dangerous forces that a roof is exposed to. Most roofs have a life expectancy of 20-25 years, so if your roof experienced the turn of the millennium, it might be time to start thinking about a new roof. This age range is dependent upon a variety of factors including ventilation, installation, material, and more. It’s even more likely that it’s time for roof replacement  if your current one was layered overtop of old shingles.

Your Shingles Are Hurting

If you notice when glancing at your home that some shingles are curled, cracked, buckling, or even missing, that’s a key indicator that it’s time for a new roof. Shingles may start to curl or crumble over time due to weathering and UV rays, and this is an obvious problem. There also may be damage inflicted from a hailstorm, which is another common cause of roof damage. There’s quite the list of potential damage to a roof, so it’s a good idea to take a step across the street every so often and take a look at your roof for signs of damaged shingles.

Roof Valleys Become Grand Canyons

Roof valleys, or the areas where differently sloped areas of roof intersect, are crucial in facilitating proper flow of rainwater toward your gutters. Failure to do so can result in mold and mildew growth or roof leaks, neither of which are anywhere near ideal. You can test the functionality of your roof’s drainage by spraying a hose up there and observing the runoff.

If you notice any of these problems with your roof, contact us as soon as possible to get started on a new roof installation project. The sooner you act the sooner you’ll be safer.
