Common Exterior Damages to Watch for in Winter

Of all the seasons, winter can be the most damaging to your home’s exterior. In areas where snow, sleet, and ice are frequent some exterior damage can be unavoidable and weaken your home’s exterior systems.

This winter keep an eye on your Roofing, Siding, and Gutters and ensure the safety of your home.

Siding Damage

You’re siding is your layer of protection on your home. Extreme cold can greatly affect it negatively causing warping, peeling, and cracks. After extreme cold it’s best to walk your exterior and check for these signs on your siding.  Warping and peeling may be signs of a leak and its necessary to find the source.

If you find any damage be sure to have those sections replaced right away, call your local siding specialist to help.

Ice Dams

Although quite common, those clusters of icicles hanging from your gutters should raise some concern for homeowners.  These Ice Dams can weaken the entire roofing system on your home. Causing issues such as gutter separation from home and loosening of shingles.  Loosened shingles can cause leaking and damage the interior of your home as well.

To prevent this, it’s best to clean the snow off your roof mid-day while the temperatures are rising, and the sun is shining. Telescopic Snow Roof Rakes are a safe, and easy way to protect you and your home.

If you suspect your Roof and Gutters have been damaged after winter, contact a local specialist and have them look.
